The largest swans in the world and the largest waterfowl in North America.  Saved from extinction in the 1900s, the species is found on freshwaterlakes and ponds in limited areas of the U.S. and Canada.  Trumpeter Swans have a loud honking song and vigorously defend their territory.  They feed on water plants by plunging their neck and head underwater, tearing away the vegetation.
