The largest heron in North America is found in ponds, marshes, and waterways across much of the United States. From its bill to its tail, it is about 46 inches long and has a wingspan of over 72 inches. The heron catches small fish and frogs by standing very still and striking quickly with its sharp bill. It nests in colonies.
