102342
These large woodpeckers are found in forests and wooded areas across much of the Eastern United States and can be identified by their bright red heads and banded faces. They are usually climbing up the sides of trees, tearing and pecking into the bark for food. Insects make up most of their diet. These woodpeckers also peck holes into dead and live trees to create nesting sites.
