These sleek birds inhabit southern Canada and the northern half of the United States in the summer. The species winters throughout the U.S. and into Mexico. They are often seen in large flocks in farmlands, woodlands and suburban areas. They feed on a variety of fruit, insects, flowers and sap. They build their nests using sticks, moss and grass, preferring fruit trees and conifers. During certain times of year, males and females share food and pass flower petals back and forth.
